5 minutes with Director, Susanna Bevilacqua on Moral Fairgrounds experience at Hackathon

Q: Hi Susanna, thanks for your time today. Can you tell us a little about Moral Fairground?

A: Since 2009 Moral Fairground has been the driving force in creating awareness and raising the profile of fair trade throughout the community, as well as the conscious business sector Australia wide. Through our many diverse events we have reached, inspired hundreds of advocates and continue to be a great resource of information. We create dynamic platforms to connect both the traditional and conscious consumer to the conscious and emerging business sector, we represent and provide opportunities to share knowledge and best practice in a supportive ethical space.

Q: You are our returning changemaker this year. when did you first collaborate with RHok and how did it come about?

A: In 2018, our volunteers identified we had an issue with our data as it was scattered all over the place and suggested we put forward to seek a solution to have data in the one place.

Q: What has been the main difference since working with RHok the first time

A: It made us think about how we could manage the data better, so we moved our website to Squarespace that also had a marketing component to it enabling us to have all the data there and we have created a large spreadsheet with all the data in the one place. We did not go any further as the solutions proposed at that time required a bit of work and seemed complex for us.
Q: Moral Fairground are looking to launch a lifestyle hub – can you tell us a little about this and what it would be mean for your clients?

A: Our mission is to be a thriving collaborative, socially conscious system that is making a positive impact by growing conscious communities who make more ethical choices as well as successful ethical businesses and social enterprises that collaborate with one another.

The Ethical Lifestyle Hub purpose is to connect impact-driven organizations, showcase the many sustainable ethical products and services that appeal to consumer and corporates looking for products and services in line with their values, such as ethically sourced options, sustainable products, less harmful products, or interested in finding and supporting impact-driven enterprises.

The Ethical Lifestyle Hub creates a platform where people can:

•           Learn about the various organization and what they do

•           See what products and services organisations sell

•           Tell their story and the passion behind their business

•           Interact with your organization in a more meaningful way

•           Get the enterprises involved in some of our events throughout the year

What does it mean - we want to provide the businesses with purpose another avenue they can use to showcase their product and services, reach out to a broad networks, share their stories, be part of the Moral Fairground Community, increase their visibility.

Q: What were you most looking forward to at the Hackathon?

A: Being able to come up with some technical solutions for our current need. At the moment, whilst we have started to establish an Ethical Lifestyle Hub (directory), we are concerned about publicising it or reaching out to our database to expand it, as we are not sure we would be able to manage the database manually. We would love to hear what solutions are out there that would be best for what we are looking to achieve.

Thanks Susanna and the Moral Fairground for joining us at this years Hackathon!
